A Path Beyond – May 2nd Blog

Hey folks to yet another installment to Red Alert A Path Beyond’s blog.

The team’s been a bit busy with testing Gamma lately so their updates are a bit minor. If you don’t want to read this blog, then skip to the Movie section and have a couple movies!

New Team Member

First up, the Bluehell Productions has a new team member who will be doing work for both Apocalypse Rising and A Path Beyond. His name is DieDiktatur; his background is 3d modeling and level design. Below features a sketch of his idea for the Soviet Technician.

Tank Modifications

Kane000 and R34ch have been working on redoing some of the Allied and Soviet tanks, notably the Allied Medium and Light Tanks and Soviet Heavy Tank.

Helipad Re-Model

Ok, so maybe R34ch has been a bit busy lately. He took it upon himself to remodel the Helipads and spice them up a bit (which worked and lookin’ awesome!).

A Path Beyond – April 5th Blargh

Dead End

This new map, otherwise known as The Tanya Map, is an objective-based map where the Allies have to go around the map destroying bridges that the Soviets have to use in order to bring in more reinforcements. A single, lucky Allied player will get to be a Tanya for this map. The Allied team will also get an Artillery unit to provide long-range fire support. If the Artillery dies, your team doesn’t get another. Don’t worry: If Tanya dies, she’ll respawn on a random player shortly. Your team will also have a medic to keep your team alive.

For the Soviets, the objective is clearly to destroy the Allies before they destroy the precious Soviet bridges. In addition to waiting out on a timer, the Soviets can destroy the Allies’ Mobile HQ which serves as a mobile command post and mobile spawn point; destroying this will bring an instant victory to the Soviets.

War Factory Updates

cuddling has found some time as been working on the War Factory basement interiors. Very EXCELLENT job cuddling on these renders and basement! I can’t wait to smash mah tank into your basement

Red Alert A Path Beyond and Apocalypse Rising Blog

Alright, I think I’ll try a dual blog now for both APB and AR.

First up will be the mod Red Alert: A Path Beyond.

Gamma testing has been full-force lately. Below is a video released last week that shows the tank battles in Gamma.

 

Community Stuff

We’d also like to remind people that there are Xfire communities set up for both APB and Mp-G and you’re invited to use them. Xfire, of course, is a game-centric IM client that allows you to chat with people in and out of the game, grab screenshots and video, record your play statistics, that kind of thing. Older players may remember APB successfully gaining Xfire support a while back.

Interested in fan mapping? We’re trying to bring the wiki up to date. Again, older players might remember this but newer users might not know it exists as a resource. Downloads such as the 3DSMax8 trial and buildings packs have been hosted conveniently on Game-Maps.net.

TruYuri’s going to be scarce for a while due to some serious life business, don’t hassle him if you do see him around. Myself and PointlessAmbler have both also been really busy and coincidentally should both have things squared away at the end of March most likely. But that hasn’t stopped industrious staff such as rm5248 from being productive. I’ve heard r34ch is up to good things, as well.

The official APB Server will be moving shortly from it’s Dallas datacenter to a European datacenter due to Reborn (the guy) becoming a father. Zunnie over at MP-Gaming will be handling all APB official-server related stuff for a while. We’ll keep you informed of changes as we hear more.

Artillery WIP

Note that there is a hidden gameplay change here, and the Artillery is going to be capable of slight azimuthal adjustments by way of a turreted design. You’ll have a few degrees of freedom to the left and right to compensate for uneven terrain.

Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising

 

Allied Prism Tower

The team has finished up the textures on the Allied Prism Tower. Both TheBeerinator and Guy with a Wrench have worked on this and it looks awesome. The only thing left to do on this baby is apply some shader effects to the prism tower mirror panels to make it sparkle, literally.

Technician IFV

dtrngd has modelled up a prototype model for the Technician IFV. This IFV will only repair buildings. This is the result of combining either faction’s technician with the IFV.

Character Mesh

One_Winged_Angel has been working on a new character-mesh base model for all characters in the future.
